ApacheCon NA 2010 Session

Commons Math

Commons math is a general purposes mathematical library. It was first released in 2004 and has a steadily increasing community. This session will present a broad overview of the various mathematical domains covered by the library and its main driving goals (applied mathematics, wide ...). A focus on the linear algebra and ordinary differential equations packages will be made, showing how they can be used to solve typical problems and providing some do's and don'ts about these packages. General hints about numerical computation in Java and how commons-math can help in this field will be explained. The presentation will conclude with some ideas about the next major version (3.0) that is already being developed, in parallel with the last 2.x release.
