Ross Gardler is a committer and PMC member on a number of Apache projects, a champion and mentor on incubating projects and a PMC member of the Community Development project. He has been an Apache administrator for the Google Summer of Code programme since it began in 2005. As manager of OSS Watch, the open source advisory service to the UK higher and further education sector Ross is engaged with many research and development projects in the academic sector both in the UK across Europe and in the US, including a European wide initiative working on addressing the open source skills gap in graduates. Ross is chair of the TransferSummit/UK conference which seeks to link the academic research sector with the commercial sector. Ross speaks at a great many events in the UK including previous ApacheCons (2005, 2008 and 2010) and is this years keynote at 11th Annual Bioinformatics Open Source Conference (BOSC).
